Just A Few Things I Like
It has to go with out saying I like Texas the most. With Texas it goes without saying you like Willie Nelson, but there are a few other things, which I have stuck with over the years, and would like to share them with you all. I will try to go in chronological sequence, as I have been exposed to them in this young life of mine.
Levis Jeans. I have worn Levis since I was a young boy in Dublin, Texas. Although not every pair Mom and Dad bought me were Levis, as I got a lot of hand me downs. And yes as a little boy I would wear out the knees first and then Mom used the in thing of the day, yeah, you got it, Iron-on patches, Man I hated those things, as they would break lose on one corner or the other or one side and not the other and would then fold over and just irritate the heck out of me. Finally I got old enough to work and buy my own clothes. You got it, Levis, and I have been wearing them ever since. I buy a couple of pair every few years and they last for five or more years.
Tony Lama Boots. Although I went barefoot for my first ten years of my life, (just kidding Mom) or should I say I preferred to go barefoot the first ten years of my life. OK, I am from Texas, and even though it has changed some most folks wear some form of ‘manly foot wear’ or boots. I like boots because like the Levis you can wear them like, forever, with just a half sole and a heel or two here and there, from time to time. The fact is besides looking nice with jeans, they just feel good on my feet.
Although Mexican Food is my favorite ever since my Grandfather Ragland took Our Family to eat at Ol’ Mexico in Corpus Christi, Texas, when I was small. Tacos are my favorite, and I also cook, Enchiladas, Fried Rice and Beans, with nachos, pica de gallo, Jalapeno peppers on the side, until I breath out Fire. I always have a bunch of Fresh Flour Tortillas around to use as a wrap for Tortilla Dogs or whatever left overs I can throw in them, to nuke ‘em and munch. The very strong second favorite food is the All American CheeseBurger, home made is the best with fat fries or chippies. As my Uncle Jerry said one time, “It is the perfect meal, balanced an all. You got your bread, meat, milk product in the cheese, and veggies in the lettuce, tomato, and onions.†Just a ‘Cheeseburger in Paridise’, as Jimmy Buffet would sing. Another Stopper of the belly and backbones bumping.
Marlboro Cigarettes , yeah i can hear you now, but I started smoking with my Big Brother Ralph. We began with non-filtered Camels, and Salem Menthols. Now mind you we would only sneak one or two at a time, so as we were not to be discovered. All you Grand Children, and Nieces and Nephews. I have one thing to say, and that is “DON’T†get started smoking. My brother and I would go across the street to this big mesquite, where we had built this tree house. We were proud of this tree house as we had found some old tin and made walls for it. We thought we were cool. There we were in the perfect location and comfort of our own tree house smoking away, and the smoke rose out of the top and the between the tin sheets. No one knew any better or did they. Anyway, I did. From that time forward I tried various brands, and stuck with Winson’s for a little bit, but after getting a bit burnt out on them, and tried Marlboro. they were smoother and had a better flavor. Now here I am stuck on Marlboro and its fine mixture of tobaccos.
Ford Mustangs, I have loved ever since the first time I saw them. Then after my Big Brother, the Oldest of my Big Brothers, and his new Wife, Melissa, bought one after they got married around 1967. Then I had the pleasure af taking a few road trips with them, it was mighty nice. So I was hooked. But to be honest with you I never really got around to buying one until 1995. I bought mostly Fords, but they had to be big enough to house a family, until all the little ones left the house, then it was time. I bought a 1996 Mustang, Black with grey interior. Had to sale it in 2000, but since then I bought a 1999, Dark, Dark Green, with Tan interior. I Love Them. Really like the new models too. Hmmm?
Apple Computers. I began working in the computer field in 1974 on a UNIVAC 1050-II, My last two tours we started integrating the PC, and replacing the dumb terminals. We had to train individuals on each application and their unique set of Menus. I met Marga in 1987, and she worked for Apple Computer, BV located in Ziest, Holland. Just down the road from Soesterberg AB where I worked. Anyway I set down at her Macintosh and was blown away, I thought what is wrong with this world, are they nuts, Each program had standards to follow and all menus were in the same place and had the same functions, and the only thing different were the menus specifically for their application. Everything on the Mac worked wonderful and as a user I could move from one application to another without having to relearn everything.
E’nuff said I have been a Mac fan ever sense.
Anyway these are a few of the things I like, but I also can stay in a library or book store for hours not to mention a music store, and my Dad’s Sunday Barbecues, but we will save these all for another blog at another time.
